Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:19-22 NIV
Encouraged by Prophecy
From the beginning, You declare the end.
Ours is an epic tale, God:
An awe-inspiring creation.
A catastrophic fall.
A jaw-dropping redemption.
A story with a thrilling climax that leaves us breathless. And it’s all there, written down for us in Scripture.
You’ve shared it with us—the end from the beginning.
Some live by a watch and others scribble dates in a planner.
We try as best we can to master the minutes and days and years of our lives.
Even so, Time gets the best of us. But You?
You master Time. It has no hold on You!
So why not study the signs You’ve given us in Your word?
Penned by many authors years apart— One message: Redemption.
The scoffers say, “Where is this coming? It’s always the same.”
But they’ve forgotten Your faithfulness that proves Your promises true.
Some are alarmed, and I understand. I’ve been unnerved, too, but no more!
Now I’m encouraged by the signs,
Because we win.
Jesus admonished the Pharisees and Sadducees and said:
“When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.
Matthew 16:2-3 NIV
Buds form on branches and leaves turn to flame to signal a new season.
Light breaks the night sky as dawn approaches.
The sun glows red as evening falls.
The leaves of the silver maple turn their undersides to the sky when the rain is about to fall.
If we look, the signs are there. Your words of prophecy encourage me in perilous times.
So let them say the world is falling apart.
Let them say the corruption will be our undoing.
Or that our hope is in the hands of a politician.
And we’ll never find peace again.
But I’ve read Your prophecies, and I won’t be deceived.
Oh, God! That the hearts of Your people would yearn to learn Your word!
That we would once again declare these verses from our pulpits
Teaching the people to be encouraged… not dismayed.
Oh, God! That You would pull away the veil so we would understand …. in Your perfect timing.
Then we will be ready with plenty of oil.
We’ll take our eyes off of this world’s woes and focus on the sky.
But when these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is near!
Luke 28:21 NIV
