The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness.
Genesis 1:2-4 NLT
It’s the age-old battle, God, as it was in the beginning of time—darkness and Light.
The earth was dark, without form and empty. It was covered in a darkness unlike anything we know of today. A complete blackout. Until You called for Light, and Light chased the darkness away.
I can imagine You there, Lord, hovering over the darkness. Waiting.
I can imagine the sound of Your thunderous voice calling forth Light.
One Word—Light!—and the darkness fled.
It still does.
I can imagine seeing the heavens without starlight:
Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years.
Genesis 1:14 NLT
Even now, You call us out into the darkness — Be Light!
When the darkness is like a thick blanket—like a night without stars or moonlight—I know You are there. Waiting.
Until we do what we were created to do—to be Your Light.
So today, Lord, this is my prayer:
Help me be a Light in the darkness.
Give me courage to let Your Light shine within me.
You, Sweet Jesus, are the Light of the world! When You are lifted up—even now— the darkness will flee.
As the moon reflects the sun’s light, we are to reflect the Son’s Light.
How amazing is that? We were created to shine.
Lord, would You take away anything that hinders Your Light in my life?
Help me be the Light that You called me to be.
Especially in these perilous times.
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.
John 8:12 NLT
