Always on the Outside Looking In? Here’s a Word of Encouragement

Have you ever felt that you’ll never fit in or find your place? Have you stood at a window–palms pressed to glass–looking into the place where you want to be, seeing people there but knowing you don’t have access?  Waiting for a door to open that seems forever locked?

Knocking on that door, are you answered with words that you are:

Under-qualified
Not Experienced
Not Welcomed
Too Old, Too Young

We’ve all been there.  You could be in a place of unemployment, or maybe you’ve been locked out of a particular social circle. You could be unable to advance in your career or in the fight of your life for a better relationship.  There are times when it seems we are locked out of the place we want to be.

If you feel like you will never get there, let me share with you a story, one that I hope will encourage you to look for the promise of God’s favor in your own life despite the circumstances:

Here’s the story:

Each week about a year or so ago, I met with a sweet friend to share coffee, encouragement and prayer.  We were both treading water in a sea of financial stress.  She had been looking for work for more than a year, and I was struggling to keep my family encouraged as my husband’s business faltered with no new projects on the horizon.

We had been meeting for months to share scriptures and hope with each other. When one of us couldn’t go another (seemingly) hopeless day, the other would speak a gentle word and share a promise from scripture.  Make no mistake, it was a dark time and to this day we are still shaking the muck and mire from our feet.

But on one particularly distressing day, my friend and I sat in the coffee shop at a table adjacent to a glass window.  Our table was drizzled with coffee, tea and more than a few tears of frustration.  My friend had been rejected for yet another job, and my husband was so discouraged that I felt helpless.

Then God showed up.

In the ugliness of that moment, two beautiful pure white doves flew down to our coffee shop window and perched on the window frame by our table. Startled, we watched as the doves pecked at the window for about five minutes, almost as if to get our attention. We were speechless, watching these two beautiful white birds only an inch away from us, pecking on the glass.  Then, just as suddenly as they came, they flew away.

I have never again seen a white dove in nature, and in fact, I don’t recall seeing one before that day.  Oh, I have seen pigeons, and I’ve seen grey doves–but never a white dove. And certainly not two doves.

Think what you may, but here’s the reason why I am sharing this story:  If you feel discouraged like I did, then God has a message for you today, the same one He sent to me at the coffee shop.  His message is this:

You, my child, are greatly favored.
You are greatly valued.
I know where you are, and I see your situation.
I AM El Roi, the God Who Sees!
I am with you, and I will see you through this storm.

When you are met with discouragement due to whatever situation you face, you need to know that God’s favor rests on you even when it seems like the world stands against us. Satan will come to us in times of trial, whispering, “Where is your God now? Has He forgotten you?”

Take heart. He has NOT forgotten you!  Remember that you are a favored child, even in times such as these.  In fact, we need to remember God’s favor especially in the dark times! Satan would have us forget… and lose the battle.

Here’s what I want to leave you with…it is not our battle.  It’s God’s battle.  He will be victorious.

I’ll leave you with the words of Christ in the temple as He stepped into His great mission of salvation. Jesus unrolled the scroll of Isaiah and read these words:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
   because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Luke 4:16-19

Remember, if you are in Christ….then you have the Lord’s favor.  Live in that favor!

Daring to Ask God for the Impossible: Can YOU Do It?

What do you desire, in the deepest, most sacred place of
your heart,
that you haven’t dared to ask God to grant you?

No, I’m not talking about a basic need here.  I’m talking about so much more than that.  Something so impossibly wonderful that you can’t bear to consider it as a reality for your life, and yet, that’s exactly what I want you to do right now.

Close your eyes with me for a moment and ask God to bring that secret dream to mind. Become a child again — without the consequences of reality to stop you — and allow that vision to float to the surface.

Do you see it? What is your dream?

Did you know that the most sacred of dreams are given to us by God Himself? Yes, God — Who places a purpose on the life of every one of His children and Who gifts each uniquely according to that purpose — also gives us a unique dream.  Some call it a calling, or a life mission.  Sadly, only a few actually discover that dream and achieve it.

For most of us that special dream stays hidden in the secret places of our hearts and minds. Why?

The Bible gives us a glimpse of why in a story found in 2 Kings 4:8-36.  It’s a story about a a wealthy women from the town of Shunem who opened her home to Elisha, the great prophet of God. Because of her generosity, Elisha offered her an opportunity to grant her heart’s desire.

Think hard for a minute with me.  What if God were to offer you the same opportunity? Would you ask Him for the thing that you want more than anything? Before you answer yes, think hard here. Would you really ask God for something so impossibly big?  Would you really trust God to give you the one thing that would light up your life?

Or….would you be afraid that He would decline
such an extreme request?

Would you doubt that God could really grant such an awesome request? Wonder if the obstacles would be too great for God?  Or maybe you think that God doesn’t “do miracles” these days? And worse, would you doubt that God cared enough for you personally to say yes? Would  you become so vulnerable as to ask God to grant your deepest desire?

If so, what if God said no? Where would that leave you?

Hurt and rejected.

Surprisingly, the women from Shumen didn’t take up Elisha’s amazing offer either. Oh, she had a dream, alright.  A dream that she had wrapped up tightly and tucked away for good. Her dream was to have a son. She knew the odds were stacked against her. Time was passing and the story tells us us that her husband was old.  You see, this sweet lady had given up on her dream to become a mother.  She believed it was too much to ask of God.

So when Elisha asked if there was anything he could do for her, she pasted on a fake smile and hid her deep desire:

“No,” she relied, “my family takes good care of me.”  2 Kings 4:13 NLT

But God allowed Elisha to look beyond her phony smile and see a glimpse of her secret dream.  Yes, God wanted to do much more for this women than she dared to ask.

Elisha, seeing her secret desire, prophesied that she would be holding a son in her arms by next year.  Her response gives us insight into the fear that plagues us all: that when we offer God our wildest dream – the one we are afraid to even disclose to others – that He will turn His back on us.

“No, my lord!” she cried.  ”O man of God, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.” 2 Kings 4:16 NLT

Exactly!  How many times do we, like this woman, fail to ask God to grant that amazing dream that He planted in our hearts?  Aren’t we all afraid that God will reject us?  Indeed, Satan would have us to believe that God would never grant us our dreams, especially when that dream is God-given!

God wants to do MORE than we dare ask!  His eyes continually search for the one who will become vulnerable enough to ask Him for the impossible. God has given His children special dreams, and God is ready to empower us to use it for His kingdom.

So my question to you today is: what is YOUR dream?  Are you ready to ASK God for it?

Go ahead,

ASK.

BELIEVE.

and SEE GOD MOVE!

Worship Weekend: Ushering in The Presence of God

This is the first of my “Worship Weekend” video posts that will feature a special thought on the topic of worship.

Worship is a key component to living a victorious life in sync with God’s purpose and will.  Worship is not just about singing songs on Sunday… it’s something you do with your entire life.

In this video I share some thoughts about the impact of drawing near to God’s presence, and why it matters:

Do you have any thoughts about worship?  Do you wonder why it’s important or why it matters to God?

If so, let’s talk! I would love to discuss the topic with you. Leave your comments below!

Kari Jobe talks about “Revelation Song”:

And here is the song…listen up for yourself:

Science & God: Astounding Images of a Divine Creator

When I attended my first Autism Research Institute conference, my head literally ached from multiple hours of presentation after presentation of autism-related microbiology, enzymatic therapies, cellular functions and molecular gut distress.  If you are a parent trying to understand the science behind what is going on with your child, you know what I mean! Autism parents attending these conferences get a quick induction into molecular biology.

God as Designer on a Molecular Level:

I remember looking at vivid slides of cells, proteins and molecules in a presentation by Dr. Elizabeth Mumper that were so strangely beautiful. Sitting there, I could scarcely breathe as the as I took in those images. They seemed …so…divine.

These cells are so small that a subcellular imaging system is necessary to capture their beauty. Who can create such a complex, intricate beauty on such a infinitely small scale?  GOD CAN.

God as Designer of the Universe:

The above picture of the Crab Nebula was taken with the Hubble Space Telescope, a project of international cooperation between NASA and the European Space Agency. Located at a distance of about 6,500 light-years from Earth, the nebula has a diameter of 11 light years. (A light year is equal to just under 10 trillion kilometers.) It expands at a rate of about 1,500 kilometers per second.

Do you see what I see?

He’s the Designer of All Things: Big and Small!

It is hard for my mind to grasp just how incredible God is.  God’s handiwork extends throughout the vastness of universe. And yet, He is present in the minuscule details on levels that we cannot even see or begin to fathom.  My expectation is that just as God has designed the immenseness of the universe, He is also the artist of infinitely small details.  Mankind will never be able to fully comprehend just how great God is!

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.

Day after day they pour out speech;
night after night they communicate knowledge.

Glory, Power and the One Name Worthy to be on the Throne

As a writer, I recently pitched an idea for a new book to someone in the industry. In a very polite way, she told me that I had proposed a much-needed message that people really needed to hear today.  Then she followed that statement by telling me that unfortunately, my name isn’t well known enough to share this message.

She’s right, I know. People don’t know my name.  A marketer by profession, I know that there is a considerable amount of business wisdom in her statement.  People won’t listen if I don’t have influence.  People don’t buy if my name won’t sell. That makes perfect sense to the business side of me. Perfect sense.

But do you want to know the truth? My name hasn’t a shred of power.  It won’t change lives for the better.  I’d rather lift up the Name of the One Who has created every living thing.  Now that name has power! That’s the name to be lifted up… not mine.

Forget my name.  Remember HIS.  Here is why:

Exodus 24 tells the story of Moses, Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and 70 of Israel’s elders on Mount Sinai seeing the feet of the Lord descending to the mountain. Verse 9 describes,

“Beneath His feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire stone, as clear as the sky itself.”

Imagine seeing such a vision! The Lord on His throne descending on Mount Sinai, His feet resting upon a sparkling sapphire platform.

Ezekiel 1 describes the throne in more vivid detail:

“The shape of a throne with the appearance of sapphire stone was above the expanse. There was a form with the appearance of a human on the throne high above. From what seemed to be His waist up, I saw a gleam like amber, with what looked like fire enclosing it all around. From what seemed to be His waist down, I also saw what looked like fire. There was a brilliant light all around Him. The appearance of the brilliant light all around was like that of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day.  This was the appearance of the form of the LORD’s glory.”

And Ezekiel’s reponse?

“When I saw [it], I fell facedown … “

John witnesses this holy and sacred setting in Revelation 4:

Immediately I was in the Spirit, and there in heaven a throne was set. One was seated on the throne, and the One seated looked like jasper and carnelian stone. A rainbow that looked like an emerald surrounded the throne.  Around that throne were 24 thrones, and on the thrones sat 24 elders dressed in white clothes, with gold crowns on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings, and thunder. Burning before the throne were seven fiery torches, which are the seven spirits of God.

Those in Heaven know something that I often forget — there is but One Name worthy to receive glory:

Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to the One seated on the throne, the One who lives forever and ever, the 24 elders fall down before the One seated on the throne, worship the One who lives forever and ever, cast their crowns before the throne, and say:

Our Lord and God,

You are worthy to receive

glory and honor and power,

because You have created all things,

and because of Your will

they exist and were created.

Revelation 4:9-11

We have not been blessed to see the sights that Moses, Ezekiel and John saw.  But we have the Living Word of God to help us see it.  Isn’t it interesting that three books of the Bible–Exodus, Ezekiel and Revelation– each written centuries apart, describe the throne of the Most High God so similarly?

Oh, Lord!  So often I want to put myself where only You should be! So often I want to lift up my own name rather than Yours, and oh, my heart breaks in sorrow that I have done so!  Help me, sweet Jesus, to remember that the Most High will never leave His seat unattended. There is no room there for my name!

And yet, the amazing truth is that we, a
s children of God,  are called to approach it boldly!

I am forever welcomed at the throne of the Most High God.  Paul tells us to approach it with a boldness to find mercy and grace and help for whatever troubles we face. But how can I dare approach the throne –so powerfully described in Ezekiel and Revelation –with boldness? And yet, scripture says that is exactly what I am called to do!

The bottom line:

Even if the world forgets my name (and it will) The One that sits there–the same God that the scriptures above describe in vivid detail–WILL FOREVER REMEMBER MY NAME.

In fact, it’s inscribed on the palm of His hand.
(Isaiah 49:16)

Labor Day: A Prayer for the Unemployed

This Monday, is Labor Day. Let’s celebrate the holiday by exercising our prayer muscles. It’s easy, and I promise it won’t take much time.  Set aside 10 mins–that’s right, the time if takes for a coffee break or to grill a burger–and say a small prayer for someone you know who is seeking employment right now. Be specific with your request, asking that God would lead them to a position of employment and provision for their household.  That’s it.

The  US Department of Labor reports that 14.9 million Americans (9.6%) are currently unemployed. You probably know some of them. They live on in your neighborhood, they shop in your grocery store, and for that matter, you may even be one of them.  It’s been a long, dry season, hasn’t it?

God does care about hardships, even if it seems like He is silent at times.  He is always working behind the scenes of our lives, and if we could pull back the curtain of the natural world–the things we can see and touch–we could see the intricacies of His hidden work in the great tapestry of our lives.  Make no mistake: God will use every trial and tear for something bigger than our present situation … if only we grant Him access to our hearts.

Trusting God to take care of us is hard when there are bills on the table and dwindling funds in the bank.  It’s hard when you are doing all that you can and still barely treading water in a sea of debt and discouragement. How can  you keep the faith when you have responsibilities at home, including young lives that are depending on you?

When the road ahead is grim, it’s time to look back to where we’ve been.  Look back and remember God’s faithfulness over the course of our lives.  Remember His goodness when we faced that last, great trial.  He was there, wasn’t He?  God actually commands us to remember His goodness. Those recollections seal our faith so that we can pass yet again through another difficult season. After all, the promise was never that that journey would be easy.  It was only that He would sustain us through the troubled times. And that’s a promise we can be certain will be honored. It’s worth is more secure than money in a bank.  Especially these days, right?

So take just 10 minutes of your holiday this weekend and say a prayer for someone unemployed, even if that person is you.

“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.”

–Philippians 4:6-7 MESSAGE

THE PROMISE: You will forget your suffering, recalling it only as waters gone by ..

“As for you, if you redirect your heart and lift up your hands to Him in prayer— if there is iniquity in your hand, remove it, and don’t allow injustice to dwell in your tents— then you will hold your head high, free from fault. You will be firmly established and unafraid. For you will forget your suffering, recalling it only as waters that have flowed by. Your life will be brighter than noonday; its darkness will be like the morning. You will be confident, because there is hope. You will look carefully about and lie down in safety.”

Rediscovering Passion: Losing the Fear of Passion for Christ

Passion for ChristOne of my first memories of living in Charlotte was going to a local buffet-style restaurant.  As I stood in the monotonous line with my empty plate in need of a good filling, a southern gentleman stepped up to the buffet and gazed at the spread of greens, fruits, breads and entrees.

As he surveyed the food, he did something that shocked and amazed me. Suddenly, the man spread his arms wide and with a great infectious smile, he declared in a voice loud enough to be heard across the restaurant, “Thank  you, Sweet Jesus, for this beautiful, amazing spread of foods before me!”

Wow! And me? I was just going through the line, another day, another meal. No big thing. I had not even considered how amazing it is to walk into a restaurant and feast from a spread of food that would once be found only at a king’s table.

Here is what I want  you to know: Something miraculous happened as I heard the man unashamedly thanking God for providing a bountiful meal.  In that moment, I was allowed a sneak peak into a heart of honest and fearless passion for God.  And like a flame, his joy immediately spread to ME. It changed not only my lunch experience, but my entire day as well.  I brought an empty plate to that buffet and this stranger filled it with much more than simple foods.  He scooped up a helping of gratitude and pure joyfulness.

Christ’s life, too, was filled with passion.  He was passionate for His Father. He was passionate for the poor. He was passionate for God’s word. He was passionate for his disciples, his friends. He was passionate for the overlooked, the oppressed, the downtrodden, the hungry, the sorrowful and the sick. The very act of dying of the cross is termed “The Passion of Christ.”  He was passionate for US.

It is also true that His passion offended.  It annoyed the religious Pharisees who had lost their own passion for God’s heart. They hated and despised it.

Even today, the world would prefer that we silence our passion. More than ever, Christians are feeling pressure to keep our passion to ourselves.  I’ll come right out and admit to you that I feel uncomfortable showing my passion in public.  I worry that my passion might be considered “intolerant.”  But why is that?  My passion is simply my passion.  I shouldn’t have to contain it for the comfort of others, and yet I sometimes I do. The truth is that my outward expression doesn’t restrict anyone else from being passionate about their own beliefs. And yet, I worry that my passion for Christ may offend others.  And here’s the reality: it does.

When we encounter an example of true passion for Christ, it’s like a mirror with the power to show what is missing in our own hearts. When I come across an example of such passion, sometimes I, too, am tempted to put it down. “Are they for real?” I may question, although I have no right to ask this question.  And then, thank God, the Spirit reminds me that the problem   … is me. The reason I am offended is because I’ve lost my own passion for God. It’s a red flag to return to my first love.

The good news is that passion is revived simply by returning wholeheartedly to Christ, who graciously forgives our wanderings and calls us back to Him.  It’s called grace, and it’s the spark that re-ignites the fading flame of passion.

Life is so fleeting, so brief. I don’t have a moment to waste by living a passionless life. I want to squeeze every ounce of joy out of the promises of God. I apologize in advance if my passion offends you.  I’ll warn you right now, you may just hear me belting out a loud “Thank you, Sweet Jesus,” the next time you dine out at a local buffet.

The question I leave you is this: Do you want to live with or without passion?  Don’t allow anyone or anything steal it away from you!  Passion is like water: we need it to become all that God intends for us to be.

We only get one life. Fill it daily with a huge serving of passion!

Now He came near the path down the Mount of Olives, and the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen:

Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven!

Some of the Pharisees from the crowd told Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” He answered, ”I tell you, if they were to keep silent, the stones would cry out!”

Authenticity Challenge: The Power of True Worship

Yesterday was not a good day.  I won’t rehash it, but you can read about it in “Authenticity Challenge: Reality Stinks.”  While today was somewhat better, tonight, my worship team rehearsal night, was fantastic.  Why? Here is the secret that turned an ordinary day into a great one: the power of praise.

Yeah, just a little singing and music, right? That’s all worship is really about, right? Not so special, you say?

Yes, Christians are well familiar with worship in services. Corporate worship, or worshiping together with others as in church, comes in all styles: contemporary, traditional, latin, and with hymns, chimes, choirs, praise bands, orchestras and even acappella.  Typically, Christians know the routine. We enter the sanctuary, pick up the bulletin, scan it, stand up, sing a song, sit down, stand up, sing, sit, stand (sigh) again, sing, sit, stand… well, you get it.

I’ve been singing with a praise and worship team for 19 years.  You would think that singing worship would become somewhat ordinary to me by now.  It’s not. Participating in worship is anything but ordinary!  I never fail to get nervous each Sunday my team is up.  I never feel prepared, and I am always anxious that I will forget the words or sing the impromptu solo (you know, the one that you blurt out when no one was supposed to sing), or forget a harmony.  I feel this way every time I sing on the team.

You would think I would get over this nervousness, but I don’t.  You see, I have come to understand that I am helping usher the congregation into the very presence of the Holy One! Worship is serious business to me!  Above all else, knowing this truth is what makes my hands shake each Sunday as I grip the microphone.  The sanctuary will be Holy Ground…and I know I am not worthy of being there!

Listen, I am not a spectacular singer.  I have no doubt that Simon would usher me on, and not without a snarky comment or two.  But while Simon won’t be in the congregation, God will be. Frankly, Simon would be far less fearsome!

So as I am standing there quaking in my shoes, I repeat this promise to myself:

“I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13 HCSB

Then something happens inside.  I find peace. My voice stops quivering, and I am ready to sing. My hands still shake, but the words are there.

Sometimes I look out into the congregation and see someone yawn, looking quite bored.  Hey, I am not judging anyone because I have done this, too.  It is so easy to let your mind wander during a worship set! It’s early, and people are tired.  But sometimes when we are singing about the power of the resurrection, I wonder if those words are really sinking in.  I wonder if people are truly aware of the power of those words. Yes, there is a great power in the words!

The next time you are in a sanctuary and the worship set begins, no matter if is it is a hymn or a contempory song–whatever the style of your particular church–really focus on the words of the music.  The lyrics. What are you singing?  To Whom?   Forget about the person in front of you with the weird shirt, the lady behind you who is so off key, or even that the vocalist may be off-beat. Just focus on what you are singing. I promise you, something special will happen.

You see, there is an incredible power in praise music. When you worship with all of your heart, or, as the Bible says, “in Spirit and Truth,” you have entered the Holy Place. The presence of the Most High God!

True worship lifts a depression. It restores a broken heart. It unites the most ill-matched group of people as they honor God together.  It is powerful, focused, and full of the Spirit. As you worship, remember where you are, and not just physically, but spiritually.  You are approaching the very altar of God!

As you sing, don’t worry about how good you sound.  Listen, God doesn’t care if you are on pitch or off. (Believe me, I’ve been off many times!)  He doesn’t care if you blunder a phrase. He only cares about your heart.

Are you worshiping in Spirit and Truth?  God is worth our whole-hearted worship. Do you know that He sings with us, too?  The verse below is one of my favorite passages. He is not hesitant about rejoicing over you….so give Him your very best!

The LORD your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.

Zephaniah 3:17 (New International Version)

Authenticity Challenge: Why God Left My Scars Behind

To kick off my two week journey and exploration of how Christianity plays out in my own life, I looked up the definitions of the word “authentic.”  One definition of the word grabbed my eye:  “authentic” is “made in a way that resembles an original.”  We certainly have an original model in the Christian faith, and this is, was, and will only ever be Jesus Christ.  Jesus alone is the perfection of Christianity.  Christian followers–like me–are by no means perfect.  We are only works in progress, becoming more and more like Christ when we allow God’s gentle hands to buff away our imperfections.

That thought lead me to the Authenticity Challenge. In today’s world, the media casts a sour light on Christianity’s biggest names. Every misstep is picked up by the headlines and tossed around the world.  In this harsh light, the Christian faith appears to consist of self-righteous, self-serving, money-centered and hypocritical individuals who look good on the outside but are hopelessly flawed on the inside.  I can’t help but wonder how my own personal faith would hold up if placed in a similarly unforgiving light.

How often I have tried to hide my own imperfections!  I am embarrassed by my deformities, my social gaffs, my mistakes and scars. I look into the mirror and take in the years that are changing my face, and I wonder how I can ever make a difference in a youth-centered world.  I am discouraged by my own inner, self-serving thoughts.  Face it, I am stuck with myself 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!  I know my own heart and the darkness it harbors.  Whatever could I offer to a God as great as mine?  Why would He even allow His eyes to rest on me, let alone call me to a purpose that would bring glory to His name? How can anyone so imperfect glorify a perfect God?

And yet, this is the paradox of Christianity:  Through Christ, our imperfections are completed covered by grace while at the same time–and this is the amazing part–God chooses to allow the scars of our past to remain.  Why? I mean, we are made completely perfect through Christ and yet we remain scarred, just as Christ’s resurrected body bore the scars of the Crucifixion.  Why?  Why not wipe away every trace of our imperfections completely and permanently?  Why must we look into the mirror each day and see such frailty? How can I ever live up to God’s purposes when I am so flawed?  Jesus whispers the answer:

“I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can’t produce a thing. Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire. But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon. This is how my Father shows who he is—when you produce grapes, when you mature as my disciples.”

John 15: 5-8 (The Message)

Oh, I get it! My scars are serving a purpose.  My scars remind me that God has stepped in and healed me. They are my testimony of faith. The scars are little markers, reminding me that God has taken me off of a road destined for my personal destruction and led me to a place where the life power of Jesus can live within me.  The very thought of that truth alone is mind-boggling.  It seems almost impossible to believe, that all of Christ can live in imperfect me, and yet this is what is required if I am to live out all of God’s glorious purposes for my life.

Frail? Yes! I look into the mirror and I see a mom with a small, timid voice who can barely handle today’s housekeeping.  But when joined with Jesus?  The possibilities are endless. My many imperfections remind me that I desperately need Him, and that I am called for a purpose and loved eternally…. scars and all.
