Just Be

And a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him.”

Luke 9:35 (TLB)

Sometimes I make it harder than it has to be.

The countless studies and piles of books. The endless documentaries and discussions.
These are all good things, but they are never enough.
So I over-analyze and ponder until my head hurts.
I write and talk and write some more.
In all of this striving to know You more I can miss the point entirely.

You simply call me to be with You.
To sit quietly in Your presence … and listen.

It’s so simple that it’s hard to me, doing the simplest thing!
This culture thrives on doing. Work more! Be smarter! Try harder!

And it’s never enough, is it?

And You?

You ask me to sit at Your feet for a while and listen.
You ask me to just… be.

I don’t have to impress anyone at all. That’s such a freeing concept!
I don’t have to know all of the answers—because You do.

I will never have to pretend to be what I am not—because You love me for who I am.
How refreshing to be accepted unconditionally… especially in this culture.

So I’ll just be.
I’ll be with You and I’ll listen to You.

In this perilous time, Your Word contains wisdom, and it’s there for the taking.
I’ll sit with the Bible on my lap and let Your Words seep deep into my soul.

I’ll listen and simply be me.

But the Lord said to her, “Martha, dear friend, you are so upset over all these details! There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it—and I won’t take it away from her!”

Luke 10: 41-42 TLB
