What do you desire, in the deepest, most sacred place of
your heart, that you haven’t dared to ask God to grant you?
No, I’m not talking about a basic need here. Â I’m talking about so much more than that. Â Something so impossibly wonderful that you can’t bear to consider it as a reality for your life, and yet, that’s exactly what I want you to do right now.
Close your eyes with me for a moment and ask God to bring that secret dream to mind. Become a child again — without the consequences of reality to stop you — and allow that vision to float to the surface.
Do you see it? What is your dream?
Did you know that the most sacred of dreams are given to us by God Himself? Yes, God — Who places a purpose on the life of every one of His children and Who gifts each uniquely according to that purpose — also gives us a unique dream. Â Some call it a calling, or a life mission. Â Sadly, only a few actually discover that dream and achieve it.
For most of us that special dream stays hidden in the secret places of our hearts and minds. Why?
The Bible gives us a glimpse of why in a story found in 2 Kings 4:8-36. Â It’s a story about a a wealthy women from the town of Shunem who opened her home to Elisha, the great prophet of God. Because of her generosity, Elisha offered her an opportunity to grant her heart’s desire.
Think hard for a minute with me. Â What if God were to offer you the same opportunity? Would you ask Him for the thing that you want more than anything? Before you answer yes, think hard here. Would you really ask God for something so impossibly big? Â Would you really trust God to give you the one thing that would light up your life?
Or….would you be afraid that He would decline
such an extreme request?
Would you doubt that God could really grant such an awesome request? Wonder if the obstacles would be too great for God?  Or maybe you think that God doesn’t “do miracles” these days? And worse, would you doubt that God cared enough for you personally to say yes? Would  you become so vulnerable as to ask God to grant your deepest desire?
If so, what if God said no? Where would that leave you?
Hurt and rejected.
Surprisingly, the women from Shumen didn’t take up Elisha’s amazing offer either. Oh, she had a dream, alright. Â A dream that she had wrapped up tightly and tucked away for good. Her dream was to have a son. She knew the odds were stacked against her. Time was passing and the story tells us us that her husband was old. Â You see, this sweet lady had given up on her dream to become a mother. Â She believed it was too much to ask of God.
So when Elisha asked if there was anything he could do for her, she pasted on a fake smile and hid her deep desire:
“No,” she relied, “my family takes good care of me.” Â 2 Kings 4:13 NLT
But God allowed Elisha to look beyond her phony smile and see a glimpse of her secret dream. Â Yes, God wanted to do much more for this women than she dared to ask.
Elisha, seeing her secret desire, prophesied that she would be holding a son in her arms by next year.  Her response gives us insight into the fear that plagues us all: that when we offer God our wildest dream – the one we are afraid to even disclose to others – that He will turn His back on us.
“No, my lord!” she cried. Â “O man of God, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.” 2 Kings 4:16 NLT
Exactly!  How many times do we, like this woman, fail to ask God to grant that amazing dream that He planted in our hearts? Aren’t we all afraid that God will reject us?  Indeed, Satan would have us to believe that God would never grant us our dreams, especially when that dream is God-given!
God wants to do MORE than we dare ask! Â His eyes continually search for the one who will become vulnerable enough to ask Him for the impossible. God has given His children special dreams, and God is ready to empower us to use it for His kingdom.
So my question to you today is: what is YOUR dream? Â Are you ready to ASK God for it?

It is not that God would never grant us our dreams,but we are often in situations of rebellion against God’s commandments,sins and other bad deeds that we feel ourselves not deserving this!
In fact our relation to God is very selfish. We remember Him only when we need Him.
Dear Kelly, could I ask you for a favor? Could you pray for me. I always wanted someone to pray for me but I do not know who to approach. I excepted Christ Jesus more than 1 year ago and I have been praying by my own in my room. Could God hear me even I pray in my own room? Currently I’m soul searching what my true purpose is . . . rejection has lead me to creativity which is writing! Obstacle after obstacle failure after failure I was exhausted of not being able to prevail my deepest desires was to become successful far bigger than my comprehension. I too doubted because sometimes things just don’t work out like we hoped for! Yet I remained hopeful especially being a mother of an autistic son that only weighed 1lb at birth! I believe God has a greater purpose for my life and I’m going through transition to keep my faith and stay hopeful that no matter how big my dream is its never impossible with God!

I was looking for an image to put on my facebook that would remind me that God is in control of my dreams and so I found your blog. I read every single word and let me tell you how inspiring and wonderful those words are to my heart. I´m a mother of 4, I work full time for a company, I have a loving husband and I have dreams in my heart that I guess I have hidden just because I´m afraid to ask God for them. I have see the Glory and the Power of God work in my life and in my family and still I´m afraid of asking God. Thank you so much for reminding me that God cares about my dreams and dreams with me!!! Thank you for the beautiful message. I have a dream too. I will ask for it in the right spirit. I always think God is Our Father, and nothing that we deeply desire, which we have only good intentions for, would be against God’s Will. He Created each of us, and like you said, has implanted unique dreams in our souls because only we can accomplish them because of our life path, talents and experiences. However, there are some very negative voices in my mind, that say God will never give me what I truly want. So when I read this message of yours, it was very inspiring. Thanks once again.

I was reading this article, and I began to get choked up. No matter what we desire, it is always with the best of intentions. We hen believe in them, are willing to receive them and ask from our hearts, they will be ours. Whether we ask for food to give to someone who is starving, a sick loved one to be healthy again, or for the person we love to find their way back to our arms and be happier and stronger together than ever before, none of it is wrong. God DOES fill our desires and when we have faith in Him, hold onto our dreams, not stop pursuing them and wish no harm onto others; God will male them our reality. I see this article, as well as these prayers and I feel so emotional. It reminds me that we all have something we would give anything to have. I hope God will bless them with grace and increasing fire. He will grant what they ask for and I feel even more confident now that my own prayer (yes, it is a very “out there” dream) will be my reality. Thank you Kelly for the article. I just re-read this blog. It feels really good. I am not trying to give lip service (that would be a horrible mistake to make), but I am trying to express honesty. Forgive me for commenting on the same topic, but this one has stuck with me since I first read it a few days ago. The very title is something so many people would never have even consider putting together. I keep thinking about this sight when I think of the desire that I am so desperately want. My desire is one that you could definitely call “the impossible.” It is the kind that people would listen to and say, “God doesn’t do that. He isn’t a genie. He does what He thinks is right, and you have to accept that.’ Baloney!! The Lord wants to grant us our wish. Mine has no ill will and would spread goodness to so many. I feel a little shy about telling it because I fear what the response here will be. On the other hand, I like the fact that people here truly have desires that they want to make their realities, and Kelly, you have been so gracious towards them. You don’t talk down on them or make them feel foolish. That is comforting!!! I have asked the Lord for my deep desire, more than I can possibly. I will be more than happy to share it if you would like, but I must caution you; you may not have positive feelings towards it. If you don’t want to pray for it, I understand and peace be with you. But it is my dream (there are so many parts to it, it would seem like several dreams all rolled into one) and I am faithful our God will grant it. Stepping out in faith to SEE Jesus being lifted up. So that lives are changed, people are restored, and the gospel message is proclaimed throughout the nations through believers around the world. That dreams are renewed in Christ.

One more thing: I have been blessed to see God do the impossible..for His glory… many times. Sometimes, the more difficult and impossible, the better. If our dream is motivated by love for God and others, then that’s a really good sign! God longs to draw near and whisper to our hearts. He loves to lift our chins to see what He sees.

I happened to see your article and it truly is remarkable!! It helped bring back my hope but soon a question popped into my head and the level of hope again went down. The question is although God would help with our impossible desires, wouldn’t He have to consider the desires of other people as well who are involved in mine? Wouldn’t He have the responsibility to make their dreams come true as well…and f their desires are not what i want then mine wouldn’t work would it? I mean no ill to anyone with my dreams.

Hi, Anjali! That’s a good question. God certainly has a plan and a will for your life, and no doubt, it’s a good one. God desires that we draw near to Him and let Him know the desires of our hearts. Then — and this is the hard part — let it go. Let God handle the rest. If there is something that will cause us harm, I believe that God will bless us in another way.
Here is what I know: God’s plans for us are GOOD… to give us a future and a hope. So don’t be afraid to ask Him for your heart’s desires. But then allow God to work in His own mysterious ways and in His own timing. In the meantime, enjoy the journey.
For example, if someone were to ask for the love of a specific person, it might be that this person desires someone else. God knows so much more than we do! Trust Him and allow Him to work in His creative, wondrous ways. In that example it might be better to ask for God for the person that He chooses: a partner who will love us in the way that Christ loved the church: true, sacrificial, amazing love.
Here’s the bottom line: God knows our hearts and longs to bless us. Trust Him.

The letting go part is absolutely true….it is very very hard to let go! I’ve been praying most of the day about impossibilities becoming possible. God told me I would be a Philanthropist. He put a dream in my heart that I would be able to buy houses for people and spend my life being a giver all day everyday in a big way! I love this dream God has given me a spirit of generosity for the welfare of others it’s what I live for and love to go looking for people to bless in every way possible! Please will you pray and believe God will do this it’s been in my heart ever since I was saved by Jesus in 1999. I also want to be able to share the Gospel with the Uber Wealthy and Celebrities in the World who need Jesus so much! I also want to go and live with my kids who are currently in Canada we have been apart for many years now I want us to be reunited permanently with all my heart! I’m seriously believing God to use me to provide for Others in every way I can all for the Glory of God who loves us all so much. I’m also believing for my Husband to come back to me and our children and to have our family restored and many grandchildren. I just read your blog article. It is beautiful. I have a crazy and wild dream that seems like the impossible and whenever I think about it it makes me feel like if I ask Him and he doesn’t answer I start to doubt that he’s really there. I know that God doesn’t always answer prayers immediately or in the way you want Him to. But I so want it to be real. Every time I doubt it feels like my relationship with God is not where it is supposed to be. I feel like something is missing.
I have only one wish and that is to go 13 years back in Time and live differently
I have been asking God for the impossible on something I have been praying about for a long time. I pray that he gives it to me. It would be greatest miracle of my life.

I have been so blessed by God throughout my entire life. He has seen me through my darkest valleys, never leaving me but helping through the dark nights to sunlight again. Now, I am in the strongest storm I have ever had to face. I am facing my own Walls of Jericho and I know that I can not do anything to break the Walls down and I have to have complete trust that God will tear these Walls in His time, not mine. This storm has been so long and the walk around the Walls has been so long, I pray I don’t give up when the Enemy whispers to just quit. Sometimes, I do wonder how much longer I have to wait and what more can I do besides wait and try to follow Jesus’s example. I know God has blessed me in the present and the past, and I know He will bless me again in the future. I would greatly appreciate any prayers in my waiting period. Thank you and God bless.
Hi, Ricky. I know it’s hard to face this storm, but you are right, you are not alone. The greatest blessings most often lie just past those great storms. He is with you now, even in the waiting period. Of this, I am certain: He does have a plan and He will sustain you.I found a couple of verses to encourage you:

I have the deep desire to have two beautiful adorable God-spirit-filled Healthy twin gIrls who look like me!😅
I already have 3 children and I have i deep desire to have more for my joy to be complete as the Bible says (ask and you will receive so that your joy is full).
But I have been afraid to even reveal it openly to anyone for fear of being branded greedy! Point is I have this strong desire to add to the family. I’m 43. I tried Ivf once and it failed I was crushed. The docs say my tubes are and blocked and by eggs are old. Simply and impossible situation. But I believe God is able to do the impossible. The Bible is full of examples. However I wonder if my desire is part of his will for me? I know if it is his will God will do it. How about if it is not his will? How Am I to be sure to keep asking? It was with such great faith that I launched out and saved for Ivf. But he sadly turned me down. But will will still continue to hold out on him and trust him. I’m not sure if you’ll still see this since it’s been a couple of years back, but I don’t see this as being greedy. I think having MANY children is such a blessing. I think back to the movie Home Alone and how they had so many siblings, all those personalities you get to enjoy and all the noises (good noise) in the house.
I’m 35 (single my whole life) and would love to have twins, a boy and a girl, and then I’d like two more (naturally or by adoption). I see myself and my husband coming together in prayer and we are agreeing for twins. They say if two come together and agree, so shall it be, right? And then you have to speak things that are not into existence as if they were.
